Fabric watch straps absorb sweat and hold dirt in the weave. They are easy to wash, but they need a full rinse and enough drying time.
Remove the strap first
Slide a NATO strap out from under the spring bars or remove a two-piece canvas strap. Keep the watch itself away from the wash water.
Hand-wash it
- Fill a bowl with lukewarm water.
- Add a small amount of mild laundry soap or dish soap.
- Soak the strap for a few minutes.
- Work the fabric gently with your fingers or a soft toothbrush.
- Clean the holes, keepers, and folded sections.
- Rinse until the water runs clear.
Do not use bleach, fabric softener, or very hot water. Aggressive machine washing can bend hardware and fray heat-sealed edges.
Dry it flat
Press the strap in a clean towel, reshape it, and let it air-dry. Do not use a dryer or radiator. Reinstall it only when fully dry.
Keep the hardware clean
Salt and sweat collect around metal loops and buckles. Brush those areas gently and rinse well.
