Why It Stands Out

• The box-domed sapphire is the whole personality of the watch. It bends the numerals when you look from an angle, and the double internal anti-reflective coating keeps it from washing out.
• A Sellita SW200-1 in elaboré grade, 26 jewels and 41 hours of reserve. This is a serviceable Swiss workhorse any watchmaker will recognise, not a movement nobody can get parts for.
• The fixed ceramic bezel with Super-LumiNova Old Radium indices is a deliberate break with skin-diver convention. It glows, it will not scratch, and it does not rotate because it was never meant to.
• Screw-down crown and 100 m rating, so the vintage look does not come with vintage fragility.

Fit and Wear

40mm wide with a 46mm lug-to-lug is the sweet spot for a three-hander. It sits inside the wrist bones on almost anyone and never overhangs. 11.9mm sounds average on paper, but a good part of that is the dome of the crystal rather than case wall, so it slips under a cuff more easily than the number suggests. On the tropical rubber it is a summer and holiday watch you can swim in. On the Milanese mesh it turns into something you can wear with a jacket. Glossy black dial and Old Radium lume mean it reads warm rather than clinical, which is the point of the 1956 reference.

Colin's Take

This one breaks the rules and gets away with it. It has the look of a skin diver but a fixed, lumed ceramic bezel instead of a rotating one, a design choice, not an oversight. The box-domed sapphire is the star: thick, dramatic, and it distorts the numerals at an angle in a way you catch yourself admiring.
