The parachute buckle is borrowed from climbing hardware, and it solves the same problem elastic magnetic straps do without relying on a magnet. You pull the free end to tighten and flip the lever to let go. It sits flatter than a magnetic clasp, which matters if you type all day with your wrist on a desk.
