Paulareis Sport Automatic Watch, Luminous Date, 42mm
A 42 mm sport automatic with luminous hands and a date window, in two dark colourways: a black case and dial on a blue-and-black nylon strap, or the same watch on orange and black. A real self-winding movement at a price that usually buys quartz.
Why It Stands Out
- A genuine automatic under a hundred dollars. It winds from the motion of your wrist, takes no battery, and never needs a cell swap.
- Luminous hands mean you can read it in a dark room or a cinema, which plenty of watches at twice the price cannot manage.
- The blacked-out case with a single accent colour gives it presence rather than just size.
- A date window you can actually use, sitting where you expect it rather than hidden in the design.
- Nylon straps in blue and black or orange and black. Both wash, both dry, and neither cares if you sweat in them.

About the Brand and the Dial
Paulareis is an independent Chinese watch brand. This is an homage design: the case, bezel and dial layout follow a well-known dive-watch style, and the manufacturer prints chronometer and depth wording on the dial as a styling cue. It is not made by, affiliated with, endorsed by, or sold on behalf of any Swiss watch company. The printed depth figure is not a spec; the real rating is 30 m (3 ATM). Buy it because you like how it looks.
Fit and Wear
42 mm on a 20 mm nylon strap is the standard sport-watch footprint, and it sits comfortably on most medium and large wrists. Nylon is the reason this is easy to live with: it breathes, it dries, and it lets the watch move a little instead of clamping down. The blue strap keeps the whole thing dark and understated, while the orange makes the accent the first thing anyone sees. Despite the diver styling, the 30 m rating means rain and hand-washing only, so treat it as a sport-look watch rather than a swimming one.
Colin's Take
Getting a genuine automatic under a hundred dollars is rare, and most of the ones that exist look cheap the moment you get close. This one does not. The blacked-out case with a pop of blue or orange gives it real presence, and wearing it is all the winding it needs. Just be honest with yourself about the dial: it is an homage, the depth wording is decoration, and the water rating is 30 m. If that bothers you, buy something else. If you want an affordable automatic that actually looks the part, this is the one I would point you at.
